Worth It 22
Value & Worth Comes From God… And That Changes Everything
Worth It 22: Love
1 John 4:10 “This is real love—not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.” That is where our value and worth comes from. God gave us our value and worth when He rescued us through Jesus.
Worth It 22: Truth in Love
The most loving thing someone can do, is tell you truth. Even if it’s hard to hear or makes your heart hurt. There’s regret for that kind of truth. God’s truth is that only He can lead you away from sin and death. 2 Cor. 7:8-10
Worth It 22: Unconditional
Your value and worth comes from God – and that changes everything. When the pandemic spread across the globe, it did so unconditionally. To personify it a little, it so without prejudice. It didn’t care who it effected. There were no lines between countries or people groups. It didn’t matter if you were king or a queen, a prince or a president, a CEO or a small business owner, a white-collar woman or a blue-collar guy, an academic or tradesman, a mom or a dad, a student or a child. Its impact and effect was unconditional, which is something unfamiliar to most people. Our value and worth is much like that, but as a polar opposite. God gives us meaning, purpose, hope, value, worth, joy, and love… unconditionally. Like the pandemic, there are no lines. There is no condition of race, gender, hair color, body type, bank account, family size, family history, financial position, geography, or education. God gives the same value and worth literally, to everyone.
If you understand that, then you can believe in grace. You can’t earn your value and worth. There’s nothing you can do to make God love you any more or any else. He loves you perfectly and He loves you first, before you even try to do anything to get value and worth. And that is where grace comes.
So, what do you do with that value and worth? What do you gain from understanding that God loves you unconditionally? How could that change you? The answer, is what it cost to give you that value and worth. Jesus, through His death and resurrection saves you from a life of relentlessly trying and never being able to be worthwhile and valuable. Jesus died for your sins. That is how valuable you are to God.
Worth It 22: Relationships
Your value and worth comes from God – and that changes everything. If you try to get your value and worth from someone else… it will fail you and you will fail them, especially if they are doing the same. If you try to build a relationship with another person, before you’ve done the important work of becoming whole yourself, every relationship you have will become an attempt to complete yourself (Dr. Les Parrott).
Worth It 22: Work
Your vocation is not your value. Your work is not your worth. If it was, then people who don’t have a job, can’t get a job, or who are too young or too old to work… would be worthless. Your value and worth does not come from your job.
Worth It 22: Something for Nothing
Your value and worth comes from God – and that changes everything. If you’re like me, as soon as you hear that God loves you and that you are valuable and worthwhile… it’s a relief. You think yourself, “That great. Now I don’t have to worry about that. Now I can really live life and do what I want.”
But that hasn’t changed anything. God, the One who gives you true value and worth is the One to look to and follow for how to live out of that God-given value and worth.
Don’t live from your value and worth, live out of your value and worth.
Worth It 22: Money
When you find your true value and worth, which only comes from God, it changes how you value and give worth to everything else in your life. Take money for example. When you understand and believe that your value and worth comes from God, you won’t try to get it from money. Then, the money you have, the money you could have, how you get money, how you save money, how you spend money, and how you give money changes its value. It reorders your priorities and your goals, so that your money has value and worth that aligned with the value and worth God gives you.
Worth It 22: Climbing the Ladder
Your value & worth comes from God – and that changes everything. Especially your view of the top. The world tells you that “Anything goes.” and “Get what you can, don’t worry about who you step on to get there.” When you value and worth comes from God it makes you generous, not greedy… because God has been most generous to you. Generosity causes generosity.
Worth It 22: Isolation
Your value and worth comes from God – and that changes everything. Trying to find value and worth on your own will always leave you alone. When your value and worth comes from God you are a part of His family and you are never alone.
